Good morning, Friend!
Recently, I had the joy of attending a workshop on the power of play with the brilliant Shirin Etessam.
Not surprisingly, just before joining the Zoom workshop, I thought to myself, I have NO business participating in this workshop right now. I have way too much to do.
You know where I’m going with this …
Play isn’t just a reward to be cashed in once all of our to-dos are crossed off the list.
Play is like oxygen. Without it, we whither.
There’s something about this time of year that makes me feel like I’m being shot out of a cannon.
It’s the final push before one work year ends and another begins.
And, at least in our home, it’s the season of anxiety as college applications are submitted.
It’s a season of seriousness. And I’m over it.
Shirin challenged us in that session to find ways to weave play into our week, and I now challenge you to do the same.
Your thought experiment this week is to weave play into your schedule.
Especially if you’re thinking, as I did, that’s just crazy!
It doesn’t have to be elaborate … it can be a quick shot of Wordle as you’re waiting for your coffee to brew, or it can be a trip to the farmer’s market to try and find the single most gorgeous piece of fruit they have on offer. How you play is unique unto you, my friend.
And let me just reassure you that your need for play is not unique. Play is actually an essential component of the human operating system.
So take a minute now, before you continue reading your emails this fine Monday morning, and find a way to play.
Shine on, my friend.
