Make Room for This.

Make Room for This.

Hi Friend,

Restlessness.

It’s a word that’s been coming up over and over again in my conversations with clients, friends, and family the past few weeks.

It seems that many of us are feeling the rumblings of something … like we’re ready for a shift, for a positive disruption to our daily experience.

But we have no idea what is causing it, or whether it’s a good thing.

In my experience, restlessness is a whisper from the soul to let us know that there’s something interesting ahead. It’s a call from our wilder selves to keep our eyes and ears open to possibility.

The thing is, many of us are experiencing this restlessness while also feeling locked up and locked into daily routines that don’t allow for much openness.

We start our work days the same way—“lunging” for our phones as Ben Kiker says. We sit in our same spaces, through hour after hour of meetings and endless loops of email exchanges. And when it’s all done, we muscle our way through dinner and end up falling asleep to Netflix.

It’s no wonder we’re restless.

When my days start to feel too samey, I know it’s time to make room for magic. Serendipity. Chance conversations.

It’s time to shake things up.

This season of restlessness led me to make one of the best decisions I’ve made in years … I joined a co-working space. Now, twice a week, I drive up to San Francisco to soak up the energy of other ambitious peeps in a most excellent environment. I always come back to my family recharged, grateful, and full of inspiration.

Your thought experiment this week is to make room for magic. Create detours in your everyday routines. Be willing to strike up a conversation with a stranger just for the sheer enjoyment of seeing a fresh face.

Notice how it changes your energy levels and gives you something to talk about, and to think about, that isn’t the same o’ same ol.

Shine on, my friend.
