Hi Friend,
I know, I know … it’s ME who has been M.I.A.
Some of you dear people have reached out, wondering whether I was trapped under something heavy, or perhaps abducted by aliens.
The answer is that I have been trapped under something heavy … LIFE.
Here’s the God’s honest truth: the pace of professional life + personal life curveballs reached a fever pitch for me this month, and I had to sit myself down and have a very important conversation:
I said to my Self,
“Self: Stop trying for ‘balance.’ It’s a myth. The system is rigged, and no one can make it across this tightrope of modern life. Instead, commit to alignment. What are you going to align yourself with during this time of pressure and crisis?”
My answer?
I’m aligning myself with EXCELLENCE.
I believe in excellence like I believe in the existence of a Higher Power.
But I don’t believe it is possible to deliver excellence on every front.
I had to narrow my focus ruthlessly and execute on the few things that were absolutely critical; 1) taking care of my body and mind, 2) being present to my family, and 3) delivering excellence to my clients. The rest had to take a temporary backseat.
And one of the things that took a back seat was this newsletter.
I apologize. I’d committed to delivering a thought-provoking communication tip for the week, and I didn’t deliver on that commitment.
Having said that, I’m glad I decided to focus on those three activities, because now I am through the woods, I feel restored and steady again, and I am slowly opening the aperture of what Excellence looks like.
Soon we will have a brand new podcast season, and many more delights to come.
For those of you who checked on me, THANK YOU.
And for those of you who didn’t have time to notice I was M.I.A., THANK YOU. I heard someone say recently, “Stop worrying about what other people think of you. The truth is they are not thinking of you.” LOL!
Your thought experiment this week is to have that same alignment conversation* with yourself. Try it on and see if it fits…
Forget balance. Reach for alignment. What are you aligning yourself with?* How might you choose a word or phrase that reminds you to focus on what truly moves the needle—right now?**
Shine on, my friend.
